Stephannie has her finger on the pulse of everything digital that drives hospitality sales. What drives her is a love to talk to people.
Tell us about your career in hospitality and the journey to STAAH.
My hospitality career started at InterContinental Bali Resort after graduating from Bali Hotel & Tourism Institute. I was drawn to the dynamism that digital platforms offered and in 2009 moves into a role assisting the E-commerce Manager to maintain online travel agents (OTAs). From there I moved into a product executive role in Wotif Group, which at that time [2011] was Australia’s largest OTA.
STAAH was a natural progression and an excellent platform to use and grow my digital sales skills.
What do you like most about STAAH and your job?
What I enjoy most about my role here is the ability to help properties of all sizes understand their capabilities and leverage them to grow their online footprint. The feeling that I get every time a property reaches or exceeds its goals because of our service is incredible.
It helps that we also have a super friendly team and a fantastic work culture. We’re like a big global family.
What is your mantra for success in the hospitality industry?
Ora et Labora, or Pray and Work.
Hard work is very important for success. Equally important is a belief in a greater power – the Almighty – to drive and support our success. I wake up every day and am grateful to be given another day to make a difference. I make the most of it and ensure I thank God every morning and night for this opportunity.
Whether it’s hospitality or any other industry, I think it is important to keep the faith.
What are your interests outside STAAH? Do they help you do your job better?
I have a passion for meeting and engaging with people from all walks of life. Getting involved in the community is not just a great way to network for me, but something I truly enjoy. I spend a lot of time outside STAAH meeting and talking to people. I am sure this knack to easily engage comes handy in my sales-driven job; it definitely helps boost my confidence.
A few Bali highlights, what you love about the place and where you’d take visitors….
My work has taken me to many places and countries. Many of the others are more organized and modern, but Bali is always in my heart. It is not only just an island for me; it’s home. I love Bali for its culture, nature and people.
If you were to visit my homeland, I’d definitely take you to Uluwatu Temple, located on the edge of a cliff. Visiting a beach in Bali is mandatory and I definitely recommend Melasti Beach. Other must-visit spots are Pura Ulun Danu in Bedugul; the combination of cool air and greenery make it perfect.
